‘Interesting place,
the basement.

My room was in the basement.

I would sometimes stay up
listening to music, singing to myself.
One night, my mum came down and
screamed at me as I was keeping her and my father awake.

I remember feeling, at thirteen, like I would never sing again.’

‘The voice can be
 a fragile thing,

from that night on,
mine was hidden away

in a basement somewhere.

Now I’m finding my footing within the realm of music, recording my first album as a singer songwriter.

In recent years I’ve also acted as a composer (although I hate to use the term) scoring films and theatre.’

‘I don’t think I give my hands nearly the credit they deserve.
Having the guitar as my primary instrument,

without my hands, there would be no song.

To me, song is the most direct way to access any kind of emotional material that’s contained within me.

So thank you, hands!’
