A BODY TO DWELL deviser, performer
MIRJA MATTINEN
‘I have a small summerhouse
on a lakeshore in Finland.
That place is my spiritual home.
It's right next to my childhood home.
My roots are deep in that ground, my family has lived there since the 18th century.
I keep going back there.
Or, did I ever actually leave?’
MIRJA MATTINEN is a Finnish cellist, improviser, double-bassist and a pedagogue. She holds an MA in contemporary improvisation and is currently finalizing her studies in classical double bass while working as a principal at the Panula-opisto music school in Kauhajoki, Finland.

‘I have to say that I've made
peace with my body parts.’

underestimate
the miraculous system
that is the
human body.’
